What I think the Navy's position is

Today I spoke to a couple of people who should know what's going on with this issue within the Navy. I got the impression that the Navy has no intention of taking my word that their cannons are corroding. They're waiting for a professional study to tell them the condition of the cannons and what if anything needs to be done about it. The only problem with that is no such study has been initiated. Such a study takes money, and the Navy certainly has many other priorities for their limited funding, so it is quite possible that no such study will ever take place.
Another good point they have is that no one is complaining about the cannons except me. One source suggested that if some reputable organization became interested in the issue and approached them, it would carry a lot more weight than a lone individual with a unique point of view.
Having served in the Navy both in a uniform and in a suit for many years, I can tell that this problem needs one admiral to get interested in it. Then all the roadblocks somehow disappear, the funding comes from somewhere, and it gets solved very quickly.
