[Weapons] history of chemical and biological war weapons

Military historians:

I'm the medical writer at the Detroit Free Press. I'm beginning the reporting of a story, as our nation gears up for war, on what's known about the health effects of chemical and biological war weapons. The story would appear in our paper and go on on the Knight Ridder news wire to 300 other papers.

I would like to hear when some of these agents first were used and the toll they have taken. What's known about the health effects of these agents? Where is the science clear or fuzzy?

Thanks.
