One James Boye is recorded on a muster roll as having enlisted in NY provincial troops in Apr. 1758. Family lore claims that he enlisted in Louisbourg Grenadiers and fought at Battle of Quebec in 1759. Can anyone explain how a NY provincial soldier would have gotten to Louisbourg in 1758 or Quebec in 1759? To my knowledge, except for Gorham's Rangers (from New England), only British regular army troops fought at Louisbourg and Quebec. Might recruits from NY units have been sought to fill out the ranks of the Louisbourg Grenadiers before they went to Quebec?
