Dear Robert,
Francis B. Hietman, in "The Historical Register and Dictionary of the United States Army", (GPO 1903; reprint Olde Soldiers Books, Gaithersburg, 1988), Vol. I, p. 772 lists Samuel Holden Parsons, born in Connecticut, who rose from Colonel in 1775 to major general in 1780. He was thanked by Congress for an action at Morisiana. He retired in 1782 and died in 1789. He is the only parsons listed with service in the Revolution.
This excellent reference is available from time to time at auction and maybe in your local library.
Hope he's your man.
James B. Ronan II
