[Uniforms] navy hat history help needed

To Whom it may concern,

I am trying to find information about a hat worn by my uncle in the navy. This hat is not like the ones in use today. The hat is round yet flat on top with a small band that says U.S. Navy, it also has a small square bow to the back. The hat is from dark royal blue to black in color. I would really like to know more about it age and history of it . I never got to know my uncle so it means alot to me. Anyone with info on the hat or where I can get info please help,or any info on how to get military info on ships used from WWI to WWII especially ones that has been torpedoed.
