Tom, You don't indicate whether you're looking for sheet music or recordings, nor whether you'd like vocal, instrumental--original period instruments or modern, whether band or field music (fife, drum, bugle), books about, or the like. There's been a virtual explosion over the past thirty years or so. Check out web sites in a search for "Civil War music." If you have access to Dixie Gun Works' catalog, look under "Music and Musical Instruments" for a good selection. Performances by Bobby Horton and Wayne Erbsen, performances by the "restored" 26th NC/11th NC/52nd TN Reg't bands, love songs, hymns, "Songs of the Seventh Cavalry," on and on. Most of these are available at military parks and museums and on tape or CD. A personal favorite which may never be surpassed is the tape by Heritage America (Robert Garofalo, CMH's own Mark Elrod, and friends)--its only shortcoming for "authentic" sound (period instruments, band, fife and drum, solo drums) is the suspicion that it is superior in musical quality to anything heard during the war! Glad to help further, either here or direct e-mail, if I may.
