I, too, received several e-mails with this same information. To me it is akin to the tales surrounding the soldier's deck of cards (his Bible--well told/sung by Tex Ritter years ago) and the stories surrounding the origin and words of Taps. (Recently I had occasion to tell a lady that her story of the Union boy and his rebel brother, in connection with Taps, was just that, a lovely "story.") Perhaps some "lovely stories" are best not investigated too far. On the other hand, I will also be looking forward to being corrected for my skepticism.
