The book entitled THE BREECH-LOADER IN THE SERVICE 1816 - 1917 by Claud E. Fuller published in 1965 by N. Flayderman & Co. has information beginning on Page 308 regarding the trials which included the Ward-Burton. The trials were conducted pursuant to G.O. No. 58 of 1872 apparently at Springfield Armory. The Ward-Burton arms tested included No. 26 Musket, Cal. 50; Carbine, Cal. 50; No. 58 Magazine Carbine, Cal. 45; and No. 97 Magazine Musket, Cal. 45.
