The following is from Wright's The Continental Army, which has one of the best surveys or how the Continental Army was organized. You also need to remember there wasn't one Continental Army, but rather a sucession of armies: one for 1775, another for 1776, one for 1777-1780, one for 1781-82 and another for 1783 (and 1784). Back to Wright (from his glossary):

Platoon The smallest tactical unit in the eighteenth century. Normally a battalion would deploy in eight platoons. In European armies platoons were often temporary formations for a specific battle; in the British and Continental Armies, companies and platoons were virtually synonymous.

So Continental Army companies were not subdivided into platoons or squads.
