It is impossible to say from a description but, as a general comment, the US M 1840 and the Mexican cavalry sabres of the same period were generally similar. This is because they were both inspired by the excellent French cavalry sabres brought out during the Napoleonic Wars. which continued in use for many years as a general model. Indeed the Mexicans imported some. Many other nations used this type of sbre also including Spain.
