George F. Franks, III has been a member of the Company of Military Historians since 1988. He assisted with the planning, preparation and execution of the Company’s 2007 Annual Meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia. George is an active member of the CMH’s Chesapeake Chapter. An advocate of “living history”, he is member of the Third New Jersey Regiment and has been a member of the Brigade of the American Revolution since 1977.
George’s research has included the uniforms of the 60th Foot at Fort Pitt and a history of the Allegheny Arsenal. George is currently completing research for a book about one of the least known engagements of the Gettysburg Campaign. His research and submission resulted in selection of one of the top 25 most endangered Civil War battlefields in 2007 by the Civil War Preservation Trust.
George is a Director of the Capital Hill Civil War Round Table and a member of U. S. Naval Academy Alumni Association, Save Historic Antietam Foundation and the Theodore Roosevelt Association. His collection includes military images from 1861 through 1918. George is the President of Franks Consulting Group, a management consulting and leadership coaching practice based in Bethesda, Maryland.
