I am particularly interested in the period from 1639 to roughly 1850 when history about United States/colonial military units wasn't as well documented as it has been since. I am currently working on background information for an article about my great (x4) grandfather, Cyrenius Stoddard, who was a private in Col. Charles Burrall's (alt. Burrell) Regiment of the Connecticut Line. I know Cyrenius enlisted in the Litchfield, CT area in March 1776 & was at the Battle of Valcour Island. He was given a medical discharge from the hospital unit at Ft. George (on Lake George) in November 1776. Cyrenius is descended from Rev. Solomon Stoddard. Cyrenius had a son Benjamin who was a Captain in the 103rd Regiment, Infantry, New York during the tenure of Gov. Throop. I'd like to follow-up the article on Cyrenius with one about his son as well as brothers/cousins/ancestors of Cyrenius who served during this time. I suspect his father or grandfathers may have been active in Crown regiments during the French & Indian Wars or possibly Queen Ann's War. I will share any information I find with those who are researching related events.
