I am an author and illustrator in my "spare" time, with a strong interest the more obscure aspects of the early American West:Spanish Colonial, Russian America, etc. However, I am interested in almost anything in the way of uniforms and historic dress. I have illustrated several Osprey publications in association with Rene Chartrand, James Kochan, etc. and a few Company Plates. In addition, I have done historical illustrations for the National Park Service, Parks Canada, and various state parks and museums. The research I have done has been on Spanish presidial uniforms, equipage and accoutrements, and the Russian American Company. I researched, wrote and illustrated the "Sutters Fort Costume Manual," illustrated an article on Spanish presidial uniforms circa 1772 for the Spanish military publication "Ristre," and am at work now on a book about Spanish and Mexican-era costumes and horse equipment in the West, principally California.

I have a day job as well, as head of exhibits for a small state park system. This has allowed me to furnish and help restore a Civil War Third System Fort (Fort Delaware) and a World War II-era Coast Artillery cantonment (Fort Miles).
